'Journey To A Hate Free Millennium' is a documentary on recent hate crimes & violence that has occurred. Its produced by a non-profit group called New Light Media. It covers 3 topics: The killing of Matthew Shepard (a college student in Wyoming beaten to death because he was gay)... The murder of James Byrd (A man from Texas dragged to death because he was black), and the students killed at Columbine High School. The film includes interviews with family and friends of the victims affected by these crimes. In late oct/early nov 2000 I had the chance to see the educational version (or short ver.) of this film twice. Before the showing, producer Brent Scarpo gave a short speech, and took questions afterward. After one of the showings, Judy Shepard (Matthew's mother) gave a short talk. If you get the chance to see this film, I would highly recommend watching it It is not an 'entertainment' type film, it was done to educate against hate and violence, with the intent to helping stop them. Note: the film can be quite emotional at some points, and has been known to cause some people to cry. It is also not recommended for young children. |
