My Thoughts v2 10 Years Later |
|
These are simply my thoughts...you may or may not agree
with them. if you want you can e-mail me (jaymes_kay @ yahoo.com) but please note
that I will just delete 'flame' and 'spam' type email.
NOTE: to help ensure i get your email, please put the word
'Columbine' in the subject line
You shouldn't be viewing this page ... yet
i may eventually make a part 2 ... this is a placeholder!
Its hard to believe that it has been ten years since the shootings
at Columbine. Now everyone who was a student that day is all grown
up...they're not kids anymore!...many of them are probably married
and children of their own now!!
Even at that time i had long since graduated from Highschool...now
simply put "I'm getting old" ... and "getting old" is not a good
thing...The gray hairs that are starting to show don't bother me
but feeling crappy sucks. When i was young - a long time ago - i
hardly ever got sick or felt bad (infact i don't think i ever
missed a day of HighSchool from being sick) ... now its rare that
i feel anything more than being "just ok". If i could i think i'd
lock myself in the house and hardly ever leave
Ok enough with old age & crappy life...noone wants to read that
anyway. Now for my thoughts on Columbine & school shootings 10
years later
In general i believe that school safety and police tactics have
improved over that time. There is still major issues with violence
in schools (take Virgina Tech in 2007 for example). Whats the
root cause of this type of thing? I have no idea...it seemes
even the experts haven't figured it out either? Are the shooters
truly crazy? Maybe they are. Is there something wrong with them
mentally? Yes...there has to be something mentally wrong with
anyone who does something like that.
Is the problem guns? Should they be banned? NO! I'm all for
reasonable gun-control measures like background checks and waiting
periods (or even a age limit of 21 to buy since you cant buy
alcahol til then)...but i'm totally against outright gun bans.
In the last 'my thoughts' i said i "could understand a ban on
all 'assault' style guns" *that was before 9/11/2001*. In these
days even that thought has changed...maybe they should be
allowed?
It is still (and always will be) my feeling that things such
as Music / VideoGames / Movies DO NOT cause school shootings.
...But on the subject of games, I recently found out that
someone has created a computer game where you can re-inact
the Columbine Shooting! I don't even know what to say to
that??...its just sooo wrong :(
Bullying is a problem that needs to be dealt with (and is
prpbably partially at fault for these shootings) ...Simply
suspending the trouble causer (Bully) isn't the right answer,
maybe they should be instead forced into couneling (and of
course have to pay for it too) to figure out what their
problem is.
Its the Smart/Gifted students in school that we should be
rewarding & premoting ... NOT the sports players. Its those
Smart/Gifted students who could end up finding the cure to
cancer, or builds an invention that eliminates our need to
burn so much oil & coal for energy.
